Notes & Reviews:

Now available in North America This recording featuring Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, explores the music of Europe's Thirty Years' War. Although Schütz, Schein and Scheidt were the best-known composers of this time, there were a large number of outstanding musicians, mostly organists or choir directors of North German churches, who were not only molded by Protestantism, but whose music was also affected by the suffering and mourning related to this destructive war. Those composers are represented here.
