Notes & Reviews:

My Own Country allows the highly respected Dame Felicity Lott to bring her delicacy and rich musical understanding to a collection of English songs inspired by the picturesque Sussex countryside. The music is grouped under headings, "Country Courtship," "To Music," "Love's Philosophy," "Country Scenes," "Night & Dawn," Children's Corner," and "Envoys." It includes the music of well-known composers such as Sir Edward Elgar, Gustav Holst, and Sir Hubert Parry. Also, a setting from Edwardian English operatic soprano Liza Lehmann allows Lott to impressively tackle the duet "Matilda" from Four Cautionary Tales, taking both parts herself. Performing also is Lott's longtime accompanist, the excellent Graham Johnson, and together they have crafted a truly charming and sometimes surprising gem of a recording with My Own Country. "A lovingly planned programme by Graham Johnson, beautifully sung by Dame Felicity" - Gramophone
