Conductor Ensembles Composer

Notes & Reviews:

Mikhail Pletnev is an artist whose genius as pianist, conductor and composer enchants and amazes audiences around the globe. His musicianship encompasses a dazzling technical power and provocative emotional range, and a searching interpretation that fuses instinct with intellect. Under his leadership, the Russian National Orchestra achieved in a few short years a towering stature among the world's orchestras. They now present here Tchaikovsky's stunning Symphony No. 1 and his Slavonic March, op. 31.

Classical Music
He starts at a surprisingly low voltage, although what his slower tempi lose energy they gain in detail and almost Nutcracker-like atmosphere. And, by contrast, the last movement has tremendous elan and features playing of demonstration quality. Excellent recording.
