Notes & Reviews:

This album is the first in the "Legacy" series in which the United States Army Field Band honors the lives and music of individuals who have made significant contributions to choral music and education. Randall Thompson, an American composer, composed three symphonies and numerous vocal works, however he is most noted for his choral works. "Alleluia," featured on this album, is Thompson's most popular and recognizable choral work. With the "Musical Ambassadors of the Army" and the "voice" of the Field Band bringing the music to life, The Legacy of Randall Thompson is a testament to the prestige and talent of the composer and musicians alike.

American Record Guide, July / August 2012
The singing is proficient enough and, for the most part, deeply felt. But for more affecting choral artistry on display in Randall Thompson's Peaceable Kingdom - the centerpiece of any major Thompson anthology - look no further than James Burton's Oxford Schola Cantorum on Hyperion 67679 (Jan/Feb 2009). This one from Maryland's Fort Meade is nondescript by comparison. So is the ubiquitous 'Alleluia'. The conductor seems intent on shushing his sopranos, which makes for a bottom- heavy sound. The gorgeous octaves the women sing in 'Choose Something Like a Star' from Thompson's Frostiana set, for example, are barely audible.
