Notes & Reviews:

The Telegraph, November 2012
Being a David Greilsammer disc, this is no ordinary recording of Mozart...Greilsammer's conducting and piano playing generate a freshness and imagination that allow each of the works to be enjoyed as a dynamic interpretation in its own right.

On David Greilsammer's second recording for Sony Classical, the artist explores his "infinite love" for Mozart by directing the Geneva Chamber Orchestra through a varied program of the composer's early works, including the "Jeunehomme" piano concerto (which Greilsammer directs from the keyboard), Symphony No. 23 and a castrato aria from the opera Mitridate, sung by countertenor Lawrence Zazzo. Most of these pieces are rarely recorded or performed, and Greilsammer's fresh and intriguing presentation sheds new light on these wonderfully animated works. Continuing Greilsammer's philosophy of combining music from different eras to provide new and enlightened listening experiences, the world-premiere recording of Denis Schuler's "In-Between"serves as a contemporary mirror on Mozart's early works.

As Greilsammer explains, "This recording presents a voyage that invites the listener to meet a Mozart we never expected: ambiguous, uncertain, overcome by fear and lost between distant worlds. Each of the pieces performed in this album represents a different in-between situation, all guiding us towards the violent, imaginary storm that occurs inside Mozart's heart.

San Francisco Chronicle
A fascinating interpreter of Mozart's music.

American Record Guide, September/October 2013
Greilsammer's pianism is crisp, articulated, intelligently phrased, and expressively nuanced. His approach to the Andantino of the concerto is very lovely. The loveliest section on the album is the gorgeous andante section near the end of III. In-Between (2010) by David Schuler (b 1970) is 11 minutes of what I call "beedaleeboop" music or "dropping the tool box in a room full of gnawing creatures": scrapes, squeaks, clicks, micro-hoots, etc. Greilsammer describes this as "going deeper in this exploration of Mozart's soul, building a bridge between the ambiguous world of Mozart and our world of today". Sometimes I do believe that some European scholars actually do communicate with interplanetary beings.
