Notes & Reviews:

Following Desprez's mass Ave Maris Stella, Bremen under Manfred Cordes now turns to a selection of psalm settings by the same composer. Josquin Desprez, not only one of the first but also one of the most influential among them, assumed the task of Latin psalm composition and like many after him chose psalms with a first-person perspective.

American Record Guide, March / April 2013
These are significant compositions; both 'In exitu Israel' and 'Miserere mei Deo' last over 13 minutes. This release concludes with Josquin's 'Misericordias Domini', whose text is a pastiche from a number of psalms. Cordes employs an all-male eight-voice ensemble (countertenors to basses) which mostly performs one-to-apart; only 'In exitu Israel' and 'Misericordias Domini' use doubled voices. The performance is impeccable, with special attention given to the clarity of the counterpoint and Josquin's use of different textures to emphasize the changing texts.
