Notes & Reviews:

Janácek composed numerous works for piano throughout his career, but they are mostly minor works. The three shining exceptions here constitute his chief claim to significance and originality as a keyboard composer. This music needs to be played by someone who can use the sadness in it to create something beautiful, and Helena Basilova is that masterful artist.
