- Babette Mondry (Organ)
Notes & Reviews:
There is more to Weingartner than the internationally acclaimed conductor and the influential figure who left his mark on Basel's music life; during the course of his career he also produced an extensive compositional oeuvre. The Basel Symphony Orchestra led by Letonja recorded this late romanticist's complete symphonies for CPO.
American Record Guide, May/June 2013
We may now hear for ourselves all of Weingartner's symphonies in performances and sound. Here is an excellent place to turn if you are jaded with Mahler. All of Felix Weingartner's symphonies deserve a place on your shelf. You couldn't do better than this grand epic.
International Record Review, May 2013
The singing, from soloists and choir alike, is more than up to the task, as is the surround-sound recording. The work as a whole may not quite add up to the sum of the parts but some of the parts are very fine indeed.

This basically enjoyable if often imitative music is well worth resurrection.
